One of the first problems that many new growers face is an overheated grow room. Between the grow lights, which emit heat, and the mylar-liner in most tents… heat can get high inside your grow space.
Too much heat can cause your plants to suffer, which is why so many lights work to lower the heat output they produce. LEDs are known for running cooler than HPS or HIDs, but they can still be too hot.
The BESTVA 600w LED grow light comes with built-in cooling fans that push the hot air up and away from your delicate plants. With this LED, you won’t have to worry as much about heat in your grow space.
Another reason we love LEDs is because of the energy efficiency. HPS/HID lights and fluorescents tend to use a lot of energy, which means a big spike in your electric bill each month.
Especially for growers on a budget, LEDs are the way to go. The BESTVA 600w LED grow light features 600w of light, but only uses roughly 125 watts of energy!
Light is food for your cannabis plant, but that doesn’t mean that ALL light is healthy. Just like there are foods that nourish the human body better, some wavelengths of light provide better food for your plants.
Along the color spectrum there are 12 color areas that provide a robust diet for marijuana… the other colors do very little. The most important colors are red and blue, but others like orange, yellow, and purple are also vital to your plant’s nutrition.
Many low-cost LEDs will start to skimp on the variety of colors they put into their lights, but that is not the case for the BESTVA 600w LED. When you invest in this LED, you can be sure that your cannabis plants will get a full, complex diet that will increase yields.
The single best way to measure how much healthy food your plant receives is through the PAR output measurement. PAR tells us how much real, edible, healthy light your plant is actually receiving at any time or place.
In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.
There are a variety of factors that can impact the PAR your plants receive, in addition to the light itself. Those factors include:
- The distance between your light and your plant.
- Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
- Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
- Multiple lights will overlap coverage areas and increase PAR.
Luckily, BESTVA has provided us with some information about the PAR output on this LED.
At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the light is 302. This is perfect for your baby plants. If you start your plant at this distance and allow it to grow upward, closer to the light, you’ll likely have the correct PAR value for the life of your plant.
Pro tip: be sure to watch for signs of light burn if your plant is too close to the LED. You’ll notice burnt tips first, then discoloration of the leaves, and finally scorch marks and burns if your plant is too close. During flower, keep your plants as close as possible (to maximize PAR) without burning.
One of the coolest features of the BESTVA 600w LED grow light is the coverage area. Many lights at this price point will cover a relatively small area, but BESTVA has designed this LED perfectly to distribute light throughout the grow space, so it covers a larger area!
This LED will almost cover an entire 4’ x 4’ tent, although the PAR is diminished on the outer areas of the coverage map. Pro-tip: hanging two of these lights side-by-side would be an excellent choice!
If you’re not sold on this light, we recommend checking out the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED, which beat this BESTVA 600w LED grow light for the Value Grow Light top spot in our Best LIght for Growing Weed in 2018 review.
While the BESTVA 600w LED grow light misses out on some of the flashy bonus features found in other LEDs, it comes with all the necessary pieces to feed your plant from seed to harvest.
This LED features cooling fans to keep heat low, all the right kinds of light for your cannabis plant, and it comes at an affordable price point. Because of its low price, you can easily afford multiples to expand your coverage area, so it will work for a small OR a mid-size grow operation.
BESTVA offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 3-year warranty, so you’re covered if something goes wrong.
