TOP PICK: After looking at more than 30 LED grow lights, I can confidently say that the Viparspectra 600w is the LED grow light that provides the most value for your money.

This budget friendly LED grow light is powerful, efficient and outputs the perfect amount of PAR in the flowering stage.

In addition to this, Viparspectra are a very reliable manufacturer and offer a generous 3 year warranty and excellent customer service.

The V600 is perfect for growing up to 4 plants in a 2x2ft or 3x3ft grow tent.

However, If you’re only planning to grow 1-2 plants and are on a very tight budget, the Roleadro 300w is the light I would opt for. Although it’s a bit less powerful than the v600, it includes UV and outputs a decent amount of PAR for the price.

# 1 – Viparspectra 600w LED Grow Light

The Viparpectra 600w takes top spot as the best value LED grow light. It’s actually my current favourite grow light  – I own two of them!

This grow light is extremely powerful for the price.

With an actual wattage output of 269w providing 703 umols of PAR at 18″  the V600 provides the perfect PAR output for the flowering stage.

Not many similarly priced lights come close to matching this.

Although this light doesn’t come with UV, it still has a full spectrum which includes Infrared.

The V600 also comes with really useful functionality, such as the ability to daisy-chain (hang multiple lights together while using only one power cord ) and veg and bloom switches ( optimise your lights spectrum for the veg and bloom stage )

On top of this, Viparpectra are a very reliable company and they back this light with a very nice 3 year warranty. Read full review

Who is this light best for?

This light is perfect if you plan on growing up to 4 plants.

However, if you’re on a tight budget or plan on growing no more than 2 plants, you might want to considering purchasing the v300 below.

What size grow tent should I get?

If you plan on growing 2 plants with this light, get a 2x2ft grow tent. If you plan on growing 4 plants under this light, get a 3x3ft grow tent.

# 2 – Roleadro GalaxyHydro 300w LED Grow Light

Roleadro’s Galaxy Hydro is another very popular 300w LED grow light, and it definitely gives the Viparspectra a run for its money. The Roleadro outputs slightly more PAR at 18″ ( 453 umols ) and and also comes with the ability to daisy chain and as well as a full spectrum which includes IR and UV. Again this light is perfect for 1-3 plants inside a small 2x3ft grow tent. Read full review

2. The Best 1000w LED Grow Lights For Weed

Choosing a 1000w LED grow light means that you’re looking to spend a bit more to really maximise your yields. The PAR output on a good 1000w LED grow light should be in the high end of the optimal ranges for veg ( 400-600 umols ) and flowering (700-900 umols )

# 1 – Phlizon 1500w LED Grow Light

The Phlizon 1500w led grow light is extremely powerful and has an actual wattage of 1000w, while consuming 340watts . The PAR Output on this bad boy is a massive 812 umols at 18″ , which means that it’s right in the middle of the 700-900 optimal range for flowering. The high PAR output, combined with the full spectrum, including UV and IR wavelengths, will mean your plants have everything they need to really max out their potential yield. The lack of functionality such daisy chaining and veg and bloom switches means that this grow light is available at a very tempting price for growers looking for power over functionality.

# 2 – Bestva DC Series 2000w LED Grow Light

The Bestva DC series 2000w is another exceptionally high powered grow light. With an actual wattage of 1400w this light will output roughly 760 umols at 18″ – well within the optimal PAR ranges for flowering. Again, focusing on power, Bestva have stripped out the nice-to-have features such as daisy chaining and veg & bloom switches. This makes the light very affordable. This light also comes with a 3 year warranty to give you peace of mind.

3. The Best 600w LED Grow Lights For Weed

A good 600w LED grow light will be able to take between 1- 6 cannabis plants from seedling ( or clone ) right the way through to harvest, producing an excellent yield. In my opinion, 600w of actual wattage is the perfect power for an indoor LED grow light. It’s powerful enough to output optimal PAR values, while consuming less electricity than more powerful lights.

The Viparspectra 600w  is hands down the best 600w grow light overall. I’ve covered this light briefly above under the “best value led grow light” award, so I won’t repeat myself here. You can read my full review of the Viparspectra 600w here

# 2 – Phlizon 600w LED Grow Light

The Phlizon 600w is also a great option if your budget can’t stretch to the Viparspectra. It offers a full spectrum (  including UV and IR ) as well as daisy chain functionality, veg and bloom switches. It outputs slightly less power than the Viparspectra, and therefore produces less PAR at 18″ , but it’s still enough to get a very solid yield. Using less power means using less electricity, so if funds are tight, then this is a great backup choice. Phlizon stand by this light with a 2 year warranty and responsive customer service. Read full review

4. The Best 300w LED Grow Lights For Weed

A 300w LED Grow light is perfect if you’re looking to grow one or two plants. Although these grow lights not might not penetrate your plants as well as more powerful lights, they will still do a great job and provide a good yield. Due to their value, many growers opt to purchase two 300w lights and hang them side by side to cover a larger area.

# 2 – Viparspectra 300w LED Grow Light

The Viparspectra 300w is the little brother to Viparspectra’s excellent 600w light. At half the actual wattage, Viparspectra offers this grow light at a significantly lower price point, which makes it very appealing if you’re a little tight on cash. Outputting 427 umols at 18″ , this light will produce great results for between 1 to 3 plants inside a 2×3 mylar lined grow tent. It comes with daisy chain functionality, a well balanced spectrum (  IR but no UV ) and is backed by Viparspectras generous 3 year warranty. Read full review

Who is this light best for? This light is only really powerful enough to take 2 plants from seed to harvest, so choose this light if you’re planning a small, personal grow.

What size grow tent should I get? Best used in a small 2ft x 2ft mylar lined grow tent to really maximise PAR.

LED Grow Light FAQ

In this section, I’ll answer a few of the most commonly asked questions about LED grow lights.

If you have any further questions, please let me know in the comments and I’ll answer them here 🙂

Q: What Are LED Grow Lights?

A: LED (Light Emitting Diode) Grow lights are a type of efficient grow light that are perfect for use indoors.

They offer some awesome benefits over traditional types of grow lights.

Q: What Are The Benefits of LED Grow Lights?

  • Full spectrum, boosting growth and potency of plants
  • They output low levels of heat, reducing ventilation costs
  • The bulbs last a long time ( 50,000 – 100,000 hours  ) so no need to replace bulbs
  • Up to 50% more energy efficient than HPS/HID or Fluorescent grow lights
  • Easy to use. Just plug in and turn on. No complicated set up.
  • No need to buy extra equipment like ballasts or reflectors
  • Safer to operate than HPS lights

Any downsides? The only real downside to LED grow lights is that they cost a bit more up front than HPS or Fluorescent lights.

However, your energy savings over time will more than make up for this.

Q: What Wattage LED Grow Light Do I Need?

A: You need at least 32 actual watts of power per square feet of grow space.

Actual watts are what your grow light draws from the wall socket.

It is not the total wattage of LED chips in the light that most manufacturers advertise in their product titles.

For example, the Viparspectra 600w in our comparison table above gets its 600w name because the light is made up of 120 5w LED diodes.

This is simply the maximum capacity of the diodes in the light.

It’s actual wattage is 269w – the power it draws from the wall socket.

One cannabis plant needs at least 1sq foot to grow in ( preferably a little bit more ) This will allow your plant room to grow to its full potential.

Therefore, if you were planning on growing 4 plants, you’d need a light with at least 128 actual watts.

Note: As well as actual watts, It’s also very important to know how much PAR your light outputs, because some led grow lights might have a high actual wattage and a low PAR output due to factors such as the angle of the lenses, efficiency etc etc – so keep an eye out for high PAR output!

Q: Will LED lights burn my plants?

A: While LED grow lights run much cooler than HPS lights ( see video above ), if you hang them too close to your plants, they will get light burn.

A good way to avoid this is to place your hand over at the top of your plant.

If you feel the heat of the light is too hot for your hand, then it’s too hot for your plants – move your light back a little.

Q: How far from my plants should my LED lights be?

A: This is not a simple question to answer, as it will vary between different grow lights.

However, most good manufacturers will provide instructions on the light hanging distance at various stages.

In general, you want to keep your light between 18 to 36 inches away from your plants.

18 inches above the canopy while flowering, and 24-36 inches above during the veg stage.

Remember, if the light is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your plants.

It’s always better for your lights to be too far away than too close.

What Makes A Good LED Grow Light?

Here are some important things that you should look for in a good LED grow light:

1. Full spectrum ( including IR and UV )

A full spectrum LED grow light will give your plant every wavelength of light it requires to maximise it’s growth ( bigger yields ). Most LED grow light manufacturers will provide details or charts about their lights spectral output. Look for blue lights between 430nm-450nm for the vegetation stage and red lights red lights between 640nm-680nm for the flowering stage.

You should also look for an LED grow light that includes UV ( ultraviolet ) and IR ( Infrared ) diodes.

Ultraviolet light has been shown make your plants react defensively and produce more trichomes. This leads to an increase in THC levels ( higher potency )

The benefits of Infrared are a little more debated, but many experts believe that it promotes larger leaf growth and increases yield size.

2. High PAR output

PAR ( measured in umol/2/s ) is the spectrum of light that your plants use for photosynthesis, so you want to feed them a lot of it. Most good manufacturers will provide you with a chart showing you how much PAR your plants will get at various heights. Between 200-400 umols is perfect for seedlings. Between 400-600 umols is perfect for late vegging cycles, and 700-900 umols is the perfect amount for flowering.

3. Daisy Chaining Functionality

A very useful feature if you need to buy multiple lights. This functionality allows you to plug one light into another light so that you only need one power chord. This makes it easier to hang your lights side-by-side, keeps your grow space organised and frees up socket space.

4. Veg & Bloom Switches

Veg & Bloom switches allow you to optimise the intensity of your lights for the different stages of your grow cycle. This prevents your young plants from getting light burn and saves you money on your electricity bill.

5. Good Warranty

Make sure you pick a grow light with a warranty of 2-3 years. LEDs should last for more than 10 years, but having a decent warranty will give you peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, you will get a replacement or refund

6. Responsive Customer Service

This is vital. If something goes wrong with you’re light, you want to have purchased from a company that will get back to you quickly and make things right. Check Amazon reviews to see how the manufacturer has replied to negative reviews.

7. High Actual Wattage

Many grow light manufactures name their grow lights after the total wattage of LED chips inside the light. For example, a grow light with 120 5w LED chips might be advertised as a 600w grow light. The actual power is the wattage that it draws from the socket. Keep an eye out for text like “consuming only 160 watts!” – this is the lights actual wattage.

Final Thoughts

I hope you found this best LED grow lights article useful!

All of the LED grow lights reviewed in this article will do a solid job for your plants.

They’re all reasonably priced and produced by reliable manufacturers who offer good warranties and customer service.

That said, the Viparspectra 600w stands out due to it’s nice mix of high PAR output and useful functionality. As mentioned earlier in the review, I own two V600’s and they do an excellent job hung over 6 plants in a 3×3 grow tent. If you’re looking for a reliable light that produces great yields and won’t break the bank, you really can’t go wrong with this light.

Quick Summary

The UNIFUN 45w LED grow light is the perfect light for a first-time indoor grower who is starting off with one small plant and a small budget.

Although you could use this light to grow a single cannabis plant for it’s full lifecycle, you would most likely get mediocre results when flowering. This light just doesn’t have the power to penetrate a cannabis plant fully while in the flowering stage. However,  we think it makes an excellent light for growing a single plant before switching to a more powerful light for flowering. The new version of this light now comes with UV and IR, which should help improve grow times and potency. We also love that this light is perfectly sized for hanging in a tight or discreet space, such as a closet.

If you’re a beginner looking for a light that will work for one small plant and you’re not too worried about maximum returns, look no further 🙂

Need something more powerful? However, if you’re looking for a grow light that will provide better results when flowering, we recommend a more powerful light such as the VIPARSPECTRA 300W or VIPARSPECTRA 600w. These are our two overall favorite LED grow lights on the market right now.

SEE THIS LIGHT IN ACTION: Here’s a fantastic video review of this light that we found online. Our full review can be found below the video.

UNIFUN 45w LED Grow Light Review

For new growers who are on a budget, choosing the right LED grow light can be a real challenge.  At a low price point, you’re definitely going to be skimping on a feature or two, and unless you’re a cannabis guru, it’s hard to know when it’s safe to cut corners.

Here at GreenBudGuru, we’ve researched and reviewed the best LED grow lights on the market.

Today we’re featuring the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, which took home 2nd place in the Best Budget Grow Lights category in our Best Lights for Growing Weed in 2018  awards!

In this review, we’re going to cover:

  • Features & Build Quality
  • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
  • Coverage
  • Warranty

Who is this grow light for?

This budget LED grow light is great for beginners looking to setup a small, discreet grow space or germination area ( such as in a closet ) as the light comes with an easy-to-hang hook. It can also be used by beginners to grow a single plant ( if you’re not too worried about mediocre results ) This might be a good option if you’re just testing dipping your toes in to growing weed is something you’d like to do.

Who is this grow light NOT for?

This LED grow light is not for growers looking to grow more than one plant. This light has a small coverage area and a low power output ( 45w ) Unless you’re simply looking to create a separate area for growing seedlings, you’ll need to invest in a more powerful light. We suggest that you checkout the  VIPARSPECTRA 300W or VIPARSPECTRA 600w which will produce far superior results.

What’s in the box?

This is a simple plug-and-go LED, which means you won’t need a lot of additional supplies.  Everything you need to get stared is right there in the box, including:

  • UNIFUN 45w LED grow light
  • 4 ft Power cord
  • Hanging kit
  • User manual

Features & Build

Growers who are working on a tight budget need lighting that can tick as many boxes as possible, and the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light really fits that bill well.

Versatility

This light can be hung from any bar or rod with the simple hook latch, which means it can fit in smaller makeshift grow spaces such as closets.  Because of it’s slim and lightweight design, it can also be mounted to a flat surface using double-sided foam tape (not included).

At only about 13″ x 13″, this LED light is super compact, which means it can fit into even the tiniest of grow spaces.

Spectrum

There are two light colors that are cannabis plants require; red and blue. Seedlings and clones need red light the most during the first couple months.

A new seedling searches for red light, which provides the right nutrients it needs to grow.  If it has a hard time finding the right kind of red light, it will begin to stretch taller and thinner, focusing its energy on reaching a place where red light is abundant.  This is why cannabis plants grown outdoors can reach 6′ tall, or taller!

Most in-home growers, however, don’t have the kind of vertical space to grow a plant that tall.  That’s why a heavy helping of red LEDs is so beneficial – red light helps your plant grow shorter and wider, preserving that valuable vertical real estate.

The ratio of red light to blue light in the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light is roughly 3:1, which is perfect for young cannabis plants.

Coverage

At 20″ from the top leaves ( the canopy ) the UNIFUN 45W grow light should cover roughly 1.5 square meter.  This is the perfect size for someone planning to grow one plant at a time.

PAR Output

PAR has become one of the best ways to calculate your light’s effectiveness, replacing other measurements like wattage and lumen. It’s important to know the PAR Output of your LED grow light, which makes it a little disappointing to know that UNIFUN hasn’t provided any information about the PAR of this one.

Since this LED isn’t made specifically for cannabis growing, we don’t have statistics on PAR output.  Luckily, we’ve done the research and can make some educated guesses about the PAR output based on the number of LEDs and comparable models.

In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.

To fall within the 200-400 PAR range with the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, we recommend keeping the light between 10″ and 20″ away from the top of your plant.

Pro tip: remember to invest in a second LED that can take over when this light stops being powerful enough.  Usually between 4-8 weeks into the veg cycle, you’ll want to upgrade to a higher PAR LED, like the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light.

Warranty information

UNIFUN offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 12-month warranty, so you’re more than covered if something goes wrong.

Shengsite 50w LED Grow Light

Let’s face it: not everyone can afford a fancy, elaborate grow space in the beginning.  Many new growers choose to go small and utilize existing spaces (like closets) to reduce cost.  You can also cut costs by choosing a budget LED grow light, but it’s important to know what features to look for.

There are a ton of grow lights on the market… HID, HPS, fluorescents, CFL, LED… it can be very overwhelming to know where to start. Here at GreenBudGuru, we do most of the hard work for you! We research and feature the best LED grow lights on the market, so that you can easily choose the one that works best for you!

You read that right… we only feature LEDs here, and there’s a good reason for that. From our research, LED grow lights are the most energy efficient, the easiest to use, and the healthiest for cannabis plants.  They’re also generally very affordable, which is awesome for budget growers!

Today we’re focusing on a light that will not break your budget but will still offer an excellent start for your cannabis plants.  The Shengsite 50w LED grow light is perfect for the beginner grower.  In this review, we’ll cover:

  • Features & Build Quality
  • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
  • Coverage
  • Warranty

Quick review

Heads up! This article is a full review, that will go over all aspects of the light in detail. If you’re only wanting a quick overview, here you go:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The Shengsite 50w LED grow light has a lot appeal for growers on a limited budget.  Specifically, we love that it’s:

  • Easy to hang in small spaces.
  • Extremely affordable.
  • Just the right ratio of red light to blue light.

We love this light so much that it won the top spot in our Budget Grow Light category for our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

Who is this light best for?

This LED is perfect for the closet grower.  Because of the hanging hook, it fits ideally on a clothing rack in a closet space! We recommend the Shengsite 50w LED for anyone who plans to grow one seed at a time and has a very limited budget.

It’s important to note a couple of things about this grow light.  It’s not going to be strong enough to last through the flowering stage. The PAR output (discussed below) is too low to encourage high yields, so you’ll need to invest in a different light when it comes time to flower your plant.

For a budget grower, however, that’s actually a good thing!  If you invest in this smaller LED upfront, you can start a seed and have a few months preparation to save for a good flowering light. Once you have both lights, you can always be vegging one plant and flowering another, which keeps your harvest times close together.

Features & Build

Space-saving

Small space growers love a light that doesn’t take up too much space.  That’s why we love the Shengsite 50w LED grow light! At just over 1 foot in diameter, this small and lightweight LED can fit in almost any grow space.  And because it weighs only 2.1 pounds, it doesn’t need reinforced beams or supports to hold it up.

Shengsite also prides itself on the heat dissipation of this LED. The plastic construction and built-in heat sinks ensure that your plant won’t receive too much hot air from the light, so you won’t have to worry as much about light burn.

3:1 ratio of red to blue LEDs

Red and blue lights are the most beneficial and healthiest for cannabis plants. However, they aren’t of equal value to a seedling.

When a cannabis plant first sprouts from its shell, it seeks out red light and stretches to find some.  If enough red wavelengths are accessible, the plant won’t need to stretch and will stay low and thick.  If it has trouble finding the red lights, it will stretch taller and thinner.

For most in-home growers, height is an issue and keeping plants short can be very beneficial. That’s why we love seeing the 3:1 ratio of red to blue lights on the Shengsite 50w LED.  With this ratio, your seedlings will get both the necessary colors and enough red light to stay short and save you vertical space.

PAR Output

Over time, there have been a lot of theories about how to increase cannabis yields and potency, and many of them have to do with lighting.  You’ve probably heard people talk about luman, wattage, and PAR values.

In general, the PAR values are the most important since they tell us exactly how much healthy, edible light your plant is receiving.  PAR measurements account for the distance your plant is from the light, and whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.

If you want to be very specific about PAR you can easily invest in a PAR meter, but those are generally very expensive.  Thankfully, to save you money, Shengsite has provided us with some basic information about this LEDs PAR output.

Seedlings and clones need a lower PAR, generally between 200 and 400.  Considering the image above, you’ll want to keep the Shengsite 50w LED grow light roughly 8-20 inches from the top leaves on your plant.  Once your plant is more mature and growing stronger, you’ll want to invest in a second light that can take it through harvest.

Pro tip: using a mylar-lined grow tent is a great way to increase the PAR your plant receives. The reflective aspect of the mylar can increase PAR by up to 25%.

Check latest price on Amazon →

Coverage

There isn’t a lot of good information about the coverage area for this LED, so we had to do some digging to find the answer.  According to Shengsite, this LED can cover up to a 3′ by 3′ space, but that seems unrealistic for anyone who needs a decent PAR Output.

With a little research, we feel confident that this light at 20″ above your plant should cover about a 1′ x 1′ space.  While that might seem small at first, it’s really perfect for seedlings and clones.  If you’re planning to grow one seed at a time, this coverage area will be more than sufficient.

Need something different?

While we love the Shengsite 50w LED grow light, we know that it won’t meet everyone’s needs.  If you’re looking for a light that doesn’t hang from a hook, we recommend the Roleadro 45w Panel LED, which took 3rd place in our Budget Grow Light category, only losing out on 5 watts of power.

Check latest price on Amazon →

Our Verdict

The Shengsite 50w LED grow light is perfect for a first-time indoor grower who is starting off with a limited budget. If  you’re looking for a light that will be perfect for seedlings and clones, look no further.  And because of its unique hanging design, you can utilize existing closet space if you don’t have a formal grow room.

This light won’t carry your plant from seed to harvest, so you’ll need to budget for a second light once your plant gets older. We recommend the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light to take your plant into harvest.

Warranty information

Shengsite offers a 12-month warranty and a 30-day moneyback guarantee.

Today we’re focusing on great LEDs for value growers, and we are going to be looking at the BESTVA 600w LEDgrow light. In this review, we’re going to cover:

  • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
  • Coverage

Quick review

Heads up! This article is a full review, that will go over all aspects of the light in detail. If you’re only wanting a quick overview, here you go:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The BESTVA 600w LED grow light has a lot of really great features. Here’s a list of our favorites:

  • Full spectrum lighting, including UV and Infrared
  • Quiet cooling fans
  • Affordable price point

Who is this light best for?

This affordable LED has all the basic components needed for a new in-home grower. While it might miss out on some of the flashy details and bonus features that come with some lights, this LED features a solid build, high-quality fans, and all the right wavelengths your plant will need.

We recommend this light for beginners and budget growers who need a good LED but don’t want to break the bank.

Features & Build

Cooling fans

One of the first problems that many new growers face is an overheated grow room. Between the grow lights, which emit heat, and the mylar-liner in most tents… heat can get high inside your grow space.

Too much heat can cause your plants to suffer, which is why so many lights work to lower the heat output they produce. LEDs are known for running cooler than HPS or HIDs, but they can still be too hot.

The BESTVA 600w LED grow light comes with built-in cooling fans that push the hot air up and away from your delicate plants. With this LED, you won’t have to worry as much about heat in your grow space.

Energy efficient

Another reason we love LEDs is because of the energy efficiency. HPS/HID lights and fluorescents tend to use a lot of energy, which means a big spike in your electric bill each month.

Especially for growers on a budget, LEDs are the way to go. The BESTVA 600w LED grow light features 600w of light, but only uses roughly 125 watts of energy!

Spectrum/PAR Output

Spectrum

Light is food for your cannabis plant, but that doesn’t mean that ALL light is healthy. Just like there are foods that nourish the human body better, some wavelengths of light provide better food for your plants.

Along the color spectrum there are 12 color areas that provide a robust diet for marijuana… the other colors do very little. The most important colors are red and blue, but others like orange, yellow, and purple are also vital to your plant’s nutrition.

Many low-cost LEDs will start to skimp on the variety of colors they put into their lights, but that is not the case for the BESTVA 600w LED. When you invest in this LED, you can be sure that your cannabis plants will get a full, complex diet that will increase yields.

PAR

The single best way to measure how much healthy food your plant receives is through the PAR output measurement. PAR tells us how much real, edible, healthy light your plant is actually receiving at any time or place.

In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.

There are a variety of factors that can impact the PAR your plants receive, in addition to the light itself. Those factors include:

  • The distance between your light and your plant.
  • Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
  • Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
  • Multiple lights will overlap coverage areas and increase PAR.

Luckily, BESTVA has provided us with some information about the PAR output on this LED.

At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the light is 302. This is perfect for your baby plants. If you start your plant at this distance and allow it to grow upward, closer to the light, you’ll likely have the correct PAR value for the life of your plant.

Pro tip: be sure to watch for signs of light burn if your plant is too close to the LED. You’ll notice burnt tips first, then discoloration of the leaves, and finally scorch marks and burns if your plant is too close. During flower, keep your plants as close as possible (to maximize PAR) without burning.

Coverage

One of the coolest features of the BESTVA 600w LED grow light is the coverage area. Many lights at this price point will cover a relatively small area, but BESTVA has designed this LED perfectly to distribute light throughout the grow space, so it covers a larger area!

This LED will almost cover an entire 4’ x 4’ tent, although the PAR is diminished on the outer areas of the coverage map. Pro-tip: hanging two of these lights side-by-side would be an excellent choice!

Not quite sold?

If you’re not sold on this light, we recommend checking out the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED, which beat this BESTVA 600w LED grow light for the Value Grow Light top spot in our Best LIght for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

Check latest price on Amazon →

Our Verdict

While the BESTVA 600w LED grow light misses out on some of the flashy bonus features found in other LEDs, it comes with all the necessary pieces to feed your plant from seed to harvest.

This LED features cooling fans to keep heat low, all the right kinds of light for your cannabis plant, and it comes at an affordable price point.  Because of its low price, you can easily afford multiples to expand your coverage area, so it will work for a small OR a mid-size grow operation.

Warranty information

BESTVA offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 3-year warranty, so you’re covered if something goes wrong.

Phlizon Newest 600w LED Grow Light Review & Comparison

Our Verdict

Overall, the Phlizon Newest 600W LED Grow Light is undeniably good value for money if your starting with a small budget.

It’s effective, well made an comes with some very useful functionality.

Check out what customers had to say or continue reading for a full break down of features, a comparison with other top 600w LED grow lights, and frequently asked questions.

Here’s what I liked…

  • It offers a well balance spectrum of blue and red light, which means that your plants will be getting the optimal wavelengths of light at both the veg and flowering stages.
  • I love the fact that at such a low price it comes with UV and IR wavelengths, which have been shown to help produce larger and more potent buds.
  • The ability to daisy-chain these lights is a big plus for me, as I usually hang two 600w lights side-by-side.
  • The company offers a solid 3 year warranty and has excellent customer service if anything should go wrong.
  • It comes with Veg and Bloom switches so you can optimise the lights intensity for each stage of your plants growth.
  • The inclusion of a thermometer/humidity monitor is also a cool addition, as it saves you having to purchase one separately!

Here’s what I didn’t like…

  • The PAR output on this light could be a little higher to fall within the optimal ranges ( see below for more information on that )
  • Although it’s marketed as a 600w light, this lights actual power is 108 watts, meaning it’s only powerful enough to grow for 2-3 plants.

Phlizon Newest 600w LED Grow Light Review

First, let’s take a quick look at this nice video that Phlizon put together, which shows you how the 600w, 900w and 1200w look side by side.

Phlizon 600w Features:

Ok, here’s a quick list of the Phlizon 600w’s features. I’ll go over the most important ones in more detail below:

Veg Area coverage: 3 x 3 at 24”
Flowering Area coverage: 2.5 x 2.5 ft at 24”
Power: Replaces a 400 watt HID; Consumes 108 watts
PAR Output: 260 umol/m2/s at 24″
Number of plants: 1-3 ( we recommended 3 )
Dimensions: 6.7 x 15.7 x 2.36 inches
Warranty: 2 years warranty + 30 days money back guarantee
Spectrum: Full spectrum (including infrared and UV )
Weight: 4.85 lbs
Lifespan: 100,000 hours; 16 hr daily limit
Good for: Veg & Flower Stages
Price: Check latest price on Amazon →

Spectrum

One of the best features of this grow light is it’s spectrum. It uses blue lights for the vegging cycle between 430-660nm and red lights for flowering between 430-740nm. These are optimal ranges and most good LED grow lights get this right. However, the Phlizon 600w also includes UV and IR wavelengths. UV wavelengths cause your plant to go into “defence mode” and produce more trichomes (THC) which means your buds will be more potent. IR has been shown to penetrate plants deeper, leading to larger leafs and bigger buds. So you can see why the inclusion of UV and IR is a good thing.

Spectrum Rating: 5/5

PAR Output

This is the one area of this grow light where I feel they could do a little better. PAR is a very important measurement, as it’s the measurement of the actual usable light your plant is receiving. Here’s a table with the optimal PAR outputs at various stages vs the Phlizon PAR output:

Stage Optimal PAR Output Phlizon 600w PAR Output
Seedling 200-400 (μmol/m2/s) 260 μmol/m2/s
Veg 400-600 (μmol/m2/s) 260 μmol/m2/s
Flowering 600-900 (μmol/m2/s) 350 μmol/m2/s

So as you can see from the table above, the Phlizon 600w produces the optimal PAR output for seedlings, but falls outside of the optimal ranges for veg and flowering. Now, this doesn’t mean that the light will produce bad results – far from it! it just means that you probably won’t max out the potential of your plants. If PAR output is important to you, I recommend you checkout the Viparspectra 600w.

Functionality Rating: 3.5/5

Functionality

The Phlizon 600w also get’s high marks in our functionality category. It comes with the ability to daisy chain multiple lights together, without the need for multiple power sockets. This is a must have if you like having an organised grow space without lot’s of cables everywhere! This light also comes with two switches that will optimise the intensity of the lights for when your plants are vegging and flowering, meaning less time tweaking hanging heights and worrying about light burn! Add to this the fact that it comes with a thermometer and humidity monitor, the functionality you get for the cost is impressive.

Functionality Rating: 5/5

Power

Although the Phlizon is marketed as a 600w grow light, it’s actual power output is 400w, so keep that in mind before deciding to buy this light. Remember, for optimal results, 1 square foot of grow space requires roughly 50w of actual power. In terms of power consumption, this grow light is SUPER efficient, consuming only 108 watts. So it won’t have a big impact on your electricity bill.

Functionality Rating: 4.5/5

Warranty

I always like to see a solid warranty with any electrical product I buy online. Phlizon offer a solid 2 year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee. They seem very responsive to customer issues on Amazon, which is a great sign that they stand 100% behind their products.

Functionality Rating: 5/5

As you can see from the table above, the Viparspectra 600w clearly comes out on top, with a higher PAR output and coverage area. However, the Phlizon 600w consumes much less electricity and usually costs less than the Viparspectra. This makes it the perfect option for growers on a tight budget.

Phlizon Newest 600w LED Grow Light FAQ

Below I’ve answered a list of the most common questions about this grow light from our readers. Let me know in the comments if you have any more and I’ll add them here.

Which size of grow tent do I need for this light?

A 3ft x 3ft grow tent would be perfect

Is the packaging discreet?

Unfortunately, no. It has “PHILZON 600w Grow Light” written all over it. However, it should come in a plain Amazon box. So if you need to be discreet, we suggest opening it away from prying eyes.

UPDATE (AUGUST 2018 ) Phlizon have informed me that they now ship in plain brown packaging. I really like that they listen to their customers!

How many plants can I grow with this light?

This light covers 2.5 sq ft when you’re plants are flowering. Each plant needs roughly 1 square ft of space. So, this light should technically cover up to 6 plants ( 2.5sq ft x 2.5sq ft ÷ 1sq ft = 6.25 ) However, we suggest growing a maximum of 4-5 plants to give your flowering plants enough space to grow big and strong.

Quick review

Heads up! This article is a little on the long side. If you’re short on time, here’s a quick overview for you:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light comes with all the power and features we’ve come to love about the  brand. Specifically, we love that it has:

  • High-quality construction
  • Low heat levels
  • High energy efficiency
  • Ability to daisy chain multiple lights

We really like this LED grow light… we even ranked it in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide. It took home the top spot for our Best Value Grow Light category.

Who is this light best for?

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED has everything a new grower needs to feed a plant all the way from germination to flowering. Because of it’s easy daisy-chain ability and low cost, this light is also a great choice for the mid-size grower who wants to hang multiple lights side-by-side to cover a larger area.

There are many growers who would benefit from this light, but we think it’s best for:

  • Small to mid-sized grow operations
  • 2-4 plants at a time
  • Beginner and budget growers who don’t want to sacrifice quality

Features & Build

Low heat

For indoor growers, one of the biggest challenges can be managing the heat output in their grow space. LEDs are the preferred choice for many simply because they run much cooler than their HID/HPS equivalents.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED is an excellent choice if you’re concerned about heat in your grow space. Aluminum cooling heat sinks and high-speed fans work together so that this light runs an amazing 70% cooler than comparable HID lights.

Energy efficient

A budget grower should always consider the cost of running a grow light in addition to its purchase price. Fluorescent and HID/HPS lights are generally expensive to run, while LEDs are known for being more efficient options.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light can replace up to 250 watts in an HID, but only uses an average of 136 watts, so you can rest assured that your energy bill won’t spike significantly. It is recommended that this light have at least 6 hours of “sleep” time per day in order to maximize its lifespan.

Excellent choice for daisy chaining

This light comes with a great feature that allows you to hang multiple lights ( daisy chain ) beside each other while only requiring a single power chord.

Because of the very low cost of this light, you can invest in two or three of these for less than the cost of a single more expensive light. If you want to increase the PAR and coverage area for your grow, we recommend hanging two or three of these side-by-side.

Tip: Using a mylar-lined grow tentcan increase the PAR Output of your light by up to 25%, and daisy-chaining will also provide a boost to PAR. Keep these factors in mind when deciding how high to hang your light.

Spectrum/PAR Output

Spectrum

At this price point, many competitor lights start skimping on the amount of healthy light they provide. It is really impressive to see the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED providing a full, 12-band spectrum of LEDs, including Infrared.

Plants absorb some colors of light better than others. Each band of color in the V300 is specifically chosen because it is the absolute best light for a marijuana plant.

When a seed is first sprouting, it is drawn toward light… specifically, it seeks red spectrum and far red (Infrared) light bands. If those infrared light waves are far away, the plant will stretch to reach it.

This is why outdoor cannabis plants can grow to be 7’ or taller… they stretch toward the sunlight (which is roughly 55% non-visible Infrared waves). Indoor growers generally don’t have enough vertical space for a plant that tall, which is where Infrared LEDs come in.

Having the V300 means your plant won’t need to stretch as much to get the Infrared wavelengths it craves, so it will maintain a better height for an indoor grow.

PAR

PAR is the measurement that tells us how much edible light our plants are receiving. As your plant grows, the amount of PAR it needs increases… seedlings like a PAR between 200 and 400, while flowering buds need between 600 and 900.

The PAR Output of your light is affected by several things:

  • The distance between your light and your plant.
  • Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
  • Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
  • Daisy chained lights overlap coverage to increase PAR.

If you want to get a precise measurement of your light’s PAR, we recommend investing in a handy PAR meter. Luckily, VIPARSPECTRA has given us an outline with detailed PAR info for those of us who don’t want to do the work.

At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the light is 300, which is perfect for a seedling or clone. You can start your light at this height and move it closer as your plant grows. The closer your light is to the plant, the higher the PAR will be directly under it.

Coverage

This is a relatively small light, so it’s not going to cover a large grow tent by itself. At 24” ( the vegetation stage ) this light will cover a 2’ by 2’ grow area. During the flower stage, we recommend keeping it between 12” and 18” from the plant, and it should cover an area about 1.5’ by 1.5’.

Adding a second or third light to your grow space can increase the total coverage area significantly, and it’s easy to afford extras since these lights are so affordable.

Need something more powerful?

If you like this light but need something with more power, check out its big sister, the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED. The larger model has twice the wattage power and a few bonus features that can really take your grow space to the next level.  The V600 also took the top spot in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review.
