    Quick Summary

The UNIFUN 45w LED grow light is the perfect light for a first-time indoor grower who is starting off with one small plant and a small budget.

Although you could use this light to grow a single cannabis plant for it's full lifecycle, you would most likely get mediocre results when flowering. This light just doesn’t have the power to penetrate a cannabis plant fully while in the flowering stage.

However,  we think it makes an excellent light for growing a single plant before switching to a more powerful light for flowering.

The new version of this light now comes with UV and IR, which should help improve grow times and potency. We also love that this light is perfectly sized for hanging in a tight or discreet space, such as a closet.

If you’re a beginner looking for a light that will work for one small plant and you're not too worried about maximum returns, look no further 🙂

Need something more powerful? However, if you’re looking for a grow light that will provide better results when flowering, we recommend a more powerful light such as the VIPARSPECTRA 300W or VIPARSPECTRA 600w. These are our two overall favorite LED grow lights on the market right now.

SEE THIS LIGHT IN ACTION: Here's a fantastic video review of this light that we found online. Our full review can be found below the video.

UNIFUN 45w LED Grow Light Review

For new growers who are on a budget, choosing the right LED grow light can be a real challenge.  At a low price point, you’re definitely going to be skimping on a feature or two, and unless you’re a cannabis guru, it’s hard to know when it’s safe to cut corners.

Here at GreenBudGuru, we've researched and reviewed the best LED grow lights on the market.

Today we’re featuring the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, which took home 2nd place in the Best Budget Grow Lights category in our Best Lights for Growing Weed in 2018  awards!

In this review, we’re going to cover:

    • Features & Build Quality
    • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
    • Coverage
    • Warranty

Who is this grow light for?

This budget LED grow light is great for beginners looking to setup a small, discreet grow space or germination area ( such as in a closet ) as the light comes with an easy-to-hang hook. It can also be used by beginners to grow a single plant ( if you're not too worried about mediocre results ) This might be a good option if you're just testing dipping your toes in to growing weed is something you'd like to do.

Who is this grow light NOT for?

This LED grow light is not for growers looking to grow more than one plant. This light has a small coverage area and a low power output ( 45w ) Unless you're simply looking to create a separate area for growing seedlings, you'll need to invest in a more powerful light. We suggest that you checkout the  VIPARSPECTRA 300W or VIPARSPECTRA 600w which will produce far superior results.

    What’s in the box?

This is a simple plug-and-go LED, which means you won’t need a lot of additional supplies.  Everything you need to get stared is right there in the box, including:

    • UNIFUN 45w LED grow light
    • 4 ft Power cord
    • Hanging kit
    • User manual

    Features & Build

Growers who are working on a tight budget need lighting that can tick as many boxes as possible, and the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light really fits that bill well.

    Versatility

This light can be hung from any bar or rod with the simple hook latch, which means it can fit in smaller makeshift grow spaces such as closets.  Because of it’s slim and lightweight design, it can also be mounted to a flat surface using double-sided foam tape (not included).

At only about 13″ x 13″, this LED light is super compact, which means it can fit into even the tiniest of grow spaces.

    Spectrum

There are two light colors that are cannabis plants require; red and blue. Seedlings and clones need red light the most during the first couple months.

A new seedling searches for red light, which provides the right nutrients it needs to grow.  If it has a hard time finding the right kind of red light, it will begin to stretch taller and thinner, focusing its energy on reaching a place where red light is abundant.  This is why cannabis plants grown outdoors can reach 6′ tall, or taller!

Most in-home growers, however, don’t have the kind of vertical space to grow a plant that tall.  That’s why a heavy helping of red LEDs is so beneficial – red light helps your plant grow shorter and wider, preserving that valuable vertical real estate.

The ratio of red light to blue light in the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light is roughly 3:1, which is perfect for young cannabis plants.

    Coverage

At 20″ from the top leaves ( the canopy ) the UNIFUN 45W grow light should cover roughly 1.5 square meter.  This is the perfect size for someone planning to grow one plant at a time.

    PAR Output

PAR has become one of the best ways to calculate your light’s effectiveness, replacing other measurements like wattage and lumen. It’s important to know the PAR Output of your LED grow light, which makes it a little disappointing to know that UNIFUN hasn’t provided any information about the PAR of this one.

Since this LED isn’t made specifically for cannabis growing, we don’t have statistics on PAR output.  Luckily, we’ve done the research and can make some educated guesses about the PAR output based on the number of LEDs and comparable models.

In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.

To fall within the 200-400 PAR range with the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, we recommend keeping the light between 10″ and 20″ away from the top of your plant.

Pro tip: remember to invest in a second LED that can take over when this light stops being powerful enough.  Usually between 4-8 weeks into the veg cycle, you’ll want to upgrade to a higher PAR LED, like the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light.

    Warranty information

UNIFUN offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 12-month warranty, so you’re more than covered if something goes wrong.

    Shengsite 50w LED Grow Light

Let’s face it: not everyone can afford a fancy, elaborate grow space in the beginning.  Many new growers choose to go small and utilize existing spaces (like closets) to reduce cost.  You can also cut costs by choosing a budget LED grow light, but it’s important to know what features to look for.

There are a ton of grow lights on the market… HID, HPS, fluorescents, CFL, LED… it can be very overwhelming to know where to start. Here at GreenBudGuru, we do most of the hard work for you! We research and feature the best LED grow lights on the market, so that you can easily choose the one that works best for you!

You read that right… we only feature LEDs here, and there’s a good reason for that. From our research, LED grow lights are the most energy efficient, the easiest to use, and the healthiest for cannabis plants.  They’re also generally very affordable, which is awesome for budget growers!

Today we’re focusing on a light that will not break your budget but will still offer an excellent start for your cannabis plants.  The Shengsite 50w LED grow light is perfect for the beginner grower.  In this review, we’ll cover:

    • Features & Build Quality
    • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
    • Coverage
    • Warranty

    Quick review

Heads up! This article is a full review, that will go over all aspects of the light in detail. If you’re only wanting a quick overview, here you go:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The Shengsite 50w LED grow light has a lot appeal for growers on a limited budget.  Specifically, we love that it’s:

    • Easy to hang in small spaces.
    • Extremely affordable.
    • Just the right ratio of red light to blue light.

We love this light so much that it won the top spot in our Budget Grow Light category for our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

Who is this light best for?

This LED is perfect for the closet grower.  Because of the hanging hook, it fits ideally on a clothing rack in a closet space! We recommend the Shengsite 50w LED for anyone who plans to grow one seed at a time and has a very limited budget.

It’s important to note a couple of things about this grow light.  It’s not going to be strong enough to last through the flowering stage. The PAR output (discussed below) is too low to encourage high yields, so you’ll need to invest in a different light when it comes time to flower your plant.

For a budget grower, however, that’s actually a good thing!  If you invest in this smaller LED upfront, you can start a seed and have a few months preparation to save for a good flowering light. Once you have both lights, you can always be vegging one plant and flowering another, which keeps your harvest times close together.

    What’s in the box?

Investing in the Shengsite 50w LED means that you can start growing right away. Everything you need to get started with this LED comes in the box, including:

    • Shengsite 50w LED grow light
    • Power cord
    • Hanging kit
    • User manual

    Features & Build

    Space-saving

Small space growers love a light that doesn’t take up too much space.  That’s why we love the Shengsite 50w LED grow light! At just over 1 foot in diameter, this small and lightweight LED can fit in almost any grow space.  And because it weighs only 2.1 pounds, it doesn’t need reinforced beams or supports to hold it up.

Shengsite also prides itself on the heat dissipation of this LED. The plastic construction and built-in heat sinks ensure that your plant won’t receive too much hot air from the light, so you won’t have to worry as much about light burn.

3:1 ratio of red to blue LEDs

Red and blue lights are the most beneficial and healthiest for cannabis plants. However, they aren’t of equal value to a seedling.

When a cannabis plant first sprouts from its shell, it seeks out red light and stretches to find some.  If enough red wavelengths are accessible, the plant won’t need to stretch and will stay low and thick.  If it has trouble finding the red lights, it will stretch taller and thinner.

For most in-home growers, height is an issue and keeping plants short can be very beneficial. That’s why we love seeing the 3:1 ratio of red to blue lights on the Shengsite 50w LED.  With this ratio, your seedlings will get both the necessary colors and enough red light to stay short and save you vertical space.

    PAR Output

Over time, there have been a lot of theories about how to increase cannabis yields and potency, and many of them have to do with lighting.  You’ve probably heard people talk about luman, wattage, and PAR values.

In general, the PAR values are the most important since they tell us exactly how much healthy, edible light your plant is receiving.  PAR measurements account for the distance your plant is from the light, and whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.

If you want to be very specific about PAR you can easily invest in a PAR meter, but those are generally very expensive.  Thankfully, to save you money, Shengsite has provided us with some basic information about this LEDs PAR output.

Seedlings and clones need a lower PAR, generally between 200 and 400.  Considering the image above, you’ll want to keep the Shengsite 50w LED grow light roughly 8-20 inches from the top leaves on your plant.  Once your plant is more mature and growing stronger, you’ll want to invest in a second light that can take it through harvest.

Pro tip: using a mylar-lined grow tent is a great way to increase the PAR your plant receives. The reflective aspect of the mylar can increase PAR by up to 25%.

    Coverage

There isn’t a lot of good information about the coverage area for this LED, so we had to do some digging to find the answer.  According to Shengsite, this LED can cover up to a 3′ by 3′ space, but that seems unrealistic for anyone who needs a decent PAR Output.

With a little research, we feel confident that this light at 20″ above your plant should cover about a 1′ x 1′ space.  While that might seem small at first, it’s really perfect for seedlings and clones.  If you’re planning to grow one seed at a time, this coverage area will be more than sufficient.

    Need something different?

While we love the Shengsite 50w LED grow light, we know that it won’t meet everyone’s needs.  If you’re looking for a light that doesn’t hang from a hook, we recommend the Roleadro 45w Panel LED, which took 3rd place in our Budget Grow Light category, only losing out on 5 watts of power.

    Our Verdict

The Shengsite 50w LED grow light is perfect for a first-time indoor grower who is starting off with a limited budget. If  you’re looking for a light that will be perfect for seedlings and clones, look no further.  And because of its unique hanging design, you can utilize existing closet space if you don’t have a formal grow room.

This light won’t carry your plant from seed to harvest, so you’ll need to budget for a second light once your plant gets older. We recommend the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light to take your plant into harvest.

    Warranty information

Shengsite offers a 12-month warranty and a 30-day moneyback guarantee.

    Quick review

Heads up! This article is a full review, that will go over all aspects of the light in detail. If you’re only wanting a quick overview, here you go:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The BESTVA 600w LED grow light has a lot of really great features. Here’s a list of our favorites:

    • Full spectrum lighting, including UV and Infrared
    • Quiet cooling fans
    • Affordable price point

Who is this light best for?

This affordable LED has all the basic components needed for a new in-home grower. While it might miss out on some of the flashy details and bonus features that come with some lights, this LED features a solid build, high-quality fans, and all the right wavelengths your plant will need.

We recommend this light for beginners and budget growers who need a good LED but don’t want to break the bank.

    Features & Build

    Cooling fans

One of the first problems that many new growers face is an overheated grow room. Between the grow lights, which emit heat, and the mylar-liner in most tents… heat can get high inside your grow space.

Too much heat can cause your plants to suffer, which is why so many lights work to lower the heat output they produce. LEDs are known for running cooler than HPS or HIDs, but they can still be too hot.

The BESTVA 600w LED grow light comes with built-in cooling fans that push the hot air up and away from your delicate plants. With this LED, you won’t have to worry as much about heat in your grow space.

    Energy efficient

Another reason we love LEDs is because of the energy efficiency. HPS/HID lights and fluorescents tend to use a lot of energy, which means a big spike in your electric bill each month.

Especially for growers on a budget, LEDs are the way to go. The BESTVA 600w LED grow light features 600w of light, but only uses roughly 125 watts of energy!

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

Light is food for your cannabis plant, but that doesn’t mean that ALL light is healthy. Just like there are foods that nourish the human body better, some wavelengths of light provide better food for your plants.

Along the color spectrum there are 12 color areas that provide a robust diet for marijuana… the other colors do very little. The most important colors are red and blue, but others like orange, yellow, and purple are also vital to your plant’s nutrition.

Many low-cost LEDs will start to skimp on the variety of colors they put into their lights, but that is not the case for the BESTVA 600w LED. When you invest in this LED, you can be sure that your cannabis plants will get a full, complex diet that will increase yields.

    PAR

The single best way to measure how much healthy food your plant receives is through the PAR output measurement. PAR tells us how much real, edible, healthy light your plant is actually receiving at any time or place.

In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.

There are a variety of factors that can impact the PAR your plants receive, in addition to the light itself. Those factors include:

    • The distance between your light and your plant.
    • Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
    • Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
    • Multiple lights will overlap coverage areas and increase PAR.

Luckily, BESTVA has provided us with some information about the PAR output on this LED.

At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the light is 302. This is perfect for your baby plants. If you start your plant at this distance and allow it to grow upward, closer to the light, you’ll likely have the correct PAR value for the life of your plant.

Pro tip: be sure to watch for signs of light burn if your plant is too close to the LED. You’ll notice burnt tips first, then discoloration of the leaves, and finally scorch marks and burns if your plant is too close. During flower, keep your plants as close as possible (to maximize PAR) without burning.

    Coverage

One of the coolest features of the BESTVA 600w LED grow light is the coverage area. Many lights at this price point will cover a relatively small area, but BESTVA has designed this LED perfectly to distribute light throughout the grow space, so it covers a larger area!

This LED will almost cover an entire 4’ x 4’ tent, although the PAR is diminished on the outer areas of the coverage map. Pro-tip: hanging two of these lights side-by-side would be an excellent choice!

    Not quite sold?

If you’re not sold on this light, we recommend checking out the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED, which beat this BESTVA 600w LED grow light for the Value Grow Light top spot in our Best LIght for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

Check latest price on Amazon →

    Our Verdict

While the BESTVA 600w LED grow light misses out on some of the flashy bonus features found in other LEDs, it comes with all the necessary pieces to feed your plant from seed to harvest.

This LED features cooling fans to keep heat low, all the right kinds of light for your cannabis plant, and it comes at an affordable price point.  Because of its low price, you can easily afford multiples to expand your coverage area, so it will work for a small OR a mid-size grow operation.

    Warranty information

BESTVA offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 3-year warranty, so you’re covered if something goes wrong.

    • Packaging not discreet
    Quick Summary

The Phlizon Newest 600W LED Grow Light is an undeniably great LED grow light.

In fact, we love it so much, we selected it as one of our two favourite LED grow lights –  It just missed out on top spot to the Viparspectra 600W due to its lower power output. However, the Phlizon 600W is still very appealing due to its lower price point.

This LED grow light will take 1-6 plants from seed to harvest with fantastic results and is perfect for a 2ft x 2ft grow tent at 24 inches.

The thing we really love about this grow light is the high output or blue light for the vegging stage and high output red light for the flowering stage. Most grow lights tent to output loads of one and not enough of the other, but this grow light outputs equal amounts.

The high PAR output ( the portion of light wavelengths that your plants eat ) means that any plant under this is going to be well fed, leading to big, potent buds.

The only major downside to this grow light is that it’s so popular it can often be out of stock!

Phlizon Newest 600w LED Grow Light FAQ

We’ve answered a list of the most common questions about this grow light from our readers:

Which size of grow tent do I need for this light?
    A 3ft x 3ft grow tent would be perfect

    Is the packaging discreet?
Unfortunately, no. It has “PHILZON 600w Grow Light” written all over it. However, it should come in a plain Amazon box. So if you need to be discreet, we suggest opening it away from prying eyes.

How many plants can I grow with this light?
This light covers 2.5 sq ft when you’re plants are flowering. Each plant needs roughly 1 square ft of space. So, this light should technically cover up to 6 plants ( 2.5sq ft x 2.5sq ft ÷ 1sq ft = 6.25 ) However, we suggest growing a maximum of 4 plants to give your flowering plants enough space to grow big and strong.

How does the Phlizon 600w compare?

We’ve compared the Phlizon 600w to two other popular 600w LED grow lights…

Compared to the Viparspectra and Mars Hydro 600w LED’s, the Phlizon 600w is very budget friendly and only consumes 108 watts of power! This makes it a great grow light if you’re on a budget.

However, this low price means that you sacrifice the power and PAR output of the Viparspectra, which would provide a better yield if your budget is able to stretch a bit.

Phlizon Newest 600w LED Grow Light Review

As cannabis becomes more popular (and more legal), there has been a huge rise in home grows. People want to grow their own plants at home, but it can be really overwhelming to get started.

Lighting is one of the most confusing parts for new growers, and that’s why we have taken the time to review and feature some of the highest quality LED grow lights on the market today. We have chosen LEDs specifically because they are affordable and high-quality, which makes them perfect for in-home growers.

Today we’re going to be looking at the Phlizon Newest 600w LED grow light. In this review, we’re going to cover:

    • Features & Build Quality
    • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
    • Coverage
    • Warranty

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The Phlizon Newest 600w LED grow light has a lot of really amazing things going for it. Specifically, we love the:

    • Full spectrum lighting and dual switches for each stage of plant growth
    • Low heat levels
    • Affordable price point
    • Bonus items included with the purchase

    What’s in the box?

One awesome benefit of this LED is that it comes with literally everything you need to get started PLUS a few cool bonus items! Inside the box, you’ll find:

    • Phlizon Newest 600w LED grow light
    • Power cord
    • Hanging hook kits
    • Thermometer humidity monitor
    • Adjustable rope

    Features & Build

    Low heat; lower PAR

Phlizon takes heat very seriously, which you can see in the design of this light. This LED features two top-mount fans that help keep the heat in the top of the tent, away from your plants. It also comes with side slots that help keep the heat low also.

The company also chooses not to use reflectors in the construction of their LEDs, which are known to increase the heat output of a light. This decision is a little bit controversial since not including reflectors can decrease the wattage output and PAR value of a light. For instance, the Phlizon Newest 600w LED features 600w, but can only replace a 400w HID equivalent.

The reflectors help increase the power and distance that a light can reach. By leaving them out, Phlizon lowers the heat but also lowers the power of this LED.

    Energy efficient

While this light comes with 600 watts of LEDs, it only uses an average of 108 watts! That’s a huge energy savings, and is one of the best features of this light.

With the Phlizon Newest 600w LED grow light, you can rest easy knowing that your electrical bills will not go through the roof while you’re growing your cannabis plants.

    Excellent choice for daisy chaining

This light comes with a great feature that allows you to hang multiple lights ( daisy chain ) beside each other while only requiring a single power chord.

Because of the very low cost of this light, you can invest in multiples of these for less than the cost of a single more expensive light. If you want to increase the PAR and coverage area for your grow, we recommend hanging two or three of these side-by-side.

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

Not all light is healthy for your cannabis plant. In fact, along the color spectrum there are 12 color areas that provide a robust diet for marijuana… the other colors do very little.

Red and blue lights are the most popular because they provide the best quality food for cannabis, and many inexpensive LEDs will only feature those two colors.

That’s why it’s nice to see the Phlizon Newest 600w LED grow light providing a full, 12-band spectrum of LEDs, including Infrared.

It also features dual switches – one for the veg cycle and another for the flower cycle – so you can customize the kind of light your plant is getting at each point in its life! Use just the “veg” lights during the veg cycle, and then switch on both lights when your plant moves into flower!

The lights for each switch are perfectly designed to provide the right wavelengths needed to sustain your plant.

    PAR

PAR is easily the most important aspect of an in-home grow light. It is a scientific measurement that tells us exactly how much edible light your plant is getting at any time.

Some people believe that a high PAR value is always the right choice, but younger plants actually need less PAR than flowering plants. Seedlings like a PAR between 200 and 400, while flowering buds need between 600 and 900.

There are a lot of things that can impact the PAR your plants receive, in addition to the light itself. Those factors include:

    • The distance between your light and your plant.
    • Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
    • Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
    • Daisy chained lights overlap coverage to increase PAR.

If you want to get a precise measurement of your light’s PAR, we recommend investing in a handy PAR meter. In the meantime, Phlizon has provided us with some general information about what to expect from this LED.

At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the Phlizon Newest 600w LED is 260. This is perfect for a seedling or clone, so you can start your light at this height and move it closer as your plant grows. The closer your light is to the plant, the higher the PAR will be directly under it.

Check latest price on Amazon →

    Coverage

This is a relatively small light, so it’s not going to cover a large grow tent by itself. At 24” ( the vegetation stage ) this light will cover a 3’ by 3’ grow area. During the flower stage, we recommend keeping it between 6” and 12” from the plant, and it should cover an area about 1.5’ by 1.5’.

The higher the PAR value in your tent, the larger your yield will be… so it’s definitely a good idea to invest in 2 or 3 of these lights if your tent is larger than 3’ x 3’.

    Not quite sold?

If you’re not sold on this light, we recommend checking out the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED, which beat this Phlizon for the top spot in our Best Value Grow Light category. You can learn more about the winner here.

    Quick review

Heads up! This article is a little on the long side. If you’re short on time, here’s a quick overview for you:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light comes with all the power and features we’ve come to love about the  brand. Specifically, we love that it has:

    • High-quality construction
    • Low heat levels
    • High energy efficiency
    • Ability to daisy chain multiple lights

We really like this LED grow light… we even ranked it in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide. It took home the top spot for our Best Value Grow Light category.

Who is this light best for?

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED has everything a new grower needs to feed a plant all the way from germination to flowering. Because of it’s easy daisy-chain ability and low cost, this light is also a great choice for the mid-size grower who wants to hang multiple lights side-by-side to cover a larger area.

There are many growers who would benefit from this light, but we think it’s best for:

    • Small to mid-sized grow operations
    • 2-4 plants at a time
    • Beginner and budget growers who don’t want to sacrifice quality

    What’s in the box?

This light has absolutely everything you need. Unlike some lights that require a separate cord for daisy chaining, the V300 connects to itself using the included power cord! With this purchase, you get:

    • V300 LED Light
    • Hanging Kit
    • User Instructions
    • 6ft Power Cord

    Features & Build

    Low heat

For indoor growers, one of the biggest challenges can be managing the heat output in their grow space. LEDs are the preferred choice for many simply because they run much cooler than their HID/HPS equivalents.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED is an excellent choice if you’re concerned about heat in your grow space. Aluminum cooling heat sinks and high-speed fans work together so that this light runs an amazing 70% cooler than comparable HID lights.

    Energy efficient

A budget grower should always consider the cost of running a grow light in addition to its purchase price. Fluorescent and HID/HPS lights are generally expensive to run, while LEDs are known for being more efficient options.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light can replace up to 250 watts in an HID, but only uses an average of 136 watts, so you can rest assured that your energy bill won’t spike significantly. It is recommended that this light have at least 6 hours of “sleep” time per day in order to maximize its lifespan.

    Excellent choice for daisy chaining

This light comes with a great feature that allows you to hang multiple lights ( daisy chain ) beside each other while only requiring a single power chord.

Because of the very low cost of this light, you can invest in two or three of these for less than the cost of a single more expensive light. If you want to increase the PAR and coverage area for your grow, we recommend hanging two or three of these side-by-side.

Tip: Using a mylar-lined grow tentcan increase the PAR Output of your light by up to 25%, and daisy-chaining will also provide a boost to PAR. Keep these factors in mind when deciding how high to hang your light.

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

At this price point, many competitor lights start skimping on the amount of healthy light they provide. It is really impressive to see the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED providing a full, 12-band spectrum of LEDs, including Infrared.

Plants absorb some colors of light better than others. Each band of color in the V300 is specifically chosen because it is the absolute best light for a marijuana plant.

When a seed is first sprouting, it is drawn toward light… specifically, it seeks red spectrum and far red (Infrared) light bands. If those infrared light waves are far away, the plant will stretch to reach it.

This is why outdoor cannabis plants can grow to be 7’ or taller… they stretch toward the sunlight (which is roughly 55% non-visible Infrared waves). Indoor growers generally don’t have enough vertical space for a plant that tall, which is where Infrared LEDs come in.

Having the V300 means your plant won’t need to stretch as much to get the Infrared wavelengths it craves, so it will maintain a better height for an indoor grow.

    PAR

PAR is the measurement that tells us how much edible light our plants are receiving. As your plant grows, the amount of PAR it needs increases… seedlings like a PAR between 200 and 400, while flowering buds need between 600 and 900.

The PAR Output of your light is affected by several things:

    • The distance between your light and your plant.
    • Whether the plant is directly under the light or off to one side.
    • Mylar-lined grow tents increase PAR by up to 25%
    • Daisy chained lights overlap coverage to increase PAR.

If you want to get a precise measurement of your light’s PAR, we recommend investing in a handy PAR meter. Luckily, VIPARSPECTRA has given us an outline with detailed PAR info for those of us who don’t want to do the work.

At 24” high, the PAR at the center point of the light is 300, which is perfect for a seedling or clone. You can start your light at this height and move it closer as your plant grows. The closer your light is to the plant, the higher the PAR will be directly under it.

Check latest price on Amazon →

    Coverage

This is a relatively small light, so it’s not going to cover a large grow tent by itself. At 24” ( the vegetation stage ) this light will cover a 2’ by 2’ grow area. During the flower stage, we recommend keeping it between 12” and 18” from the plant, and it should cover an area about 1.5’ by 1.5’.

Adding a second or third light to your grow space can increase the total coverage area significantly, and it’s easy to afford extras since these lights are so affordable.

    Need something more powerful?

If you like this light but need something with more power, check out its big sister, the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED. The larger model has twice the wattage power and a few bonus features that can really take your grow space to the next level.  The V600 also took the top spot in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

    Warranty information

    Our Verdict

The V300 is kinda like the Holy Grail for the new grower. It has everything you need to maximize your plant’s growth at a fraction of the cost. Paired with the strong reputation of the brand, we think it’s an excellent investment for new growers.

If you need a little more space, you can still benefit from this light. Because of its low price point, you can easily afford multiple lights which can be chained together to increase coverage area and PAR.

The construction of this light is exactly what you would expect from VIPARSPECTRA: high-quality and specifically designed to be perfect for in-home grow spaces.

We can’t think of a single reason not to recommend it. We love it, and we’re sure that you will too!

    VIVOSUN 600w LED

Pathonor LED Grow Lights (2 Pack) Review

As more people decide to grow their own marijuana at home, LED grow lights are becoming extremely popular. And it’s no surprise, since LEDs offer an affordable way to give your plant all the edible light they need to achieve big, dense yields.

So it makes sense to see VIVOSUN, a popular name in grow tents, expand their talents to include LEDs. The VIVOSUN 600w LED is the first of its kind from the company, and we’re excited to review it for you today!

We love the VIVOSUN line of grow tents, so we have really high (pun intended) expectations for this 600w. Today we’re going to review:

    • Features & Build Quality
    • Color Spectrum/PAR Value
    • Coverage
    • Warranty

…and much more! Let’s get started!

    Quick review

Heads up! This article is a little on the long side. If you’re short on time, here’s a quick overview for you:

Here’s what we love most about this light:

This 600w definitely gets a reliability boost by having the VIVOSUN label, but its merits speak for themselves. Here’s what you can expect when you buy this light:

    • All the power you’d expect from the VIVOSUN brand
    • Exactly the right kinds of light for each stage of your plant’s life
    • Solid, sturdy construction focused on keeping heat low
    • Excellent customer service and support

We love this light… we even included it in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide. It took home the 3rd Place title in our Best Overall Grow Light category, only missing out because it’s so new and we don’t know how well it will stand the test of time.

Who is this light best for?

The VIVOSUN 600w LED grow light has everything an in-home grower needs, from the 12-band, full-spectrum lighting to the solid construction and high-speed fans for heat dissipation. This light is a great choice if you:

    • Want a single light that will last from seed to harvest
    • Need the best quality possible but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg
    • Plan to daisy chain multiple lights together for a mid-size grow operation
    • Want to increase the average yield for your plants

    What’s in the box?

    Features & Build

    Outstanding ventilation

If you’re growing in a mylar-lined, reflective tent, you have to pay special attention to the heat your lights produce. Bulbs that are too hot can burn or bleach your plants, stunting their growth and also increase the risk of fire.

LED lights are known for being the coolest, compared with HID/HPS and fluorescents, but can still create too much heat for a grow tent. VIVOSUN obviously considered that when they were building the VIVOSUN 600w LED.

On the top panel of this 600w light are two large exhaust fans, each 5” in diameter, to circulate and cool the air. The unique construction of this LED allows air to move out the sides of the fan instead of pushing heat downward onto the plants.

Together, those features allow this fan to run roughly 26% cooler than standard LEDs! The sturdy construction and high-quality materials also add to our love for this light!

    Energy efficient

Many first-time growers worry about how much their energy bill will increase when they start growing. Fluorescent lights and HIDs are notorious for using a high amount of energy, but LEDs are much more efficient.

With the VIVOSUN 600w LED grow light, you can replace a 600w HID/HPS light, but only use an average of 270 watts of power. It also features an extended 100,000 hour projected lifespan, which means it will last longer and save you money on replacements.

    Brand recognition

Normally we’d have a really hard time recommending a grow light from a company with zero experience in LED lighting. But VIVOSUN stands out from the crowd for two reasons:

First, the company is known for being among the best in the industry for indoor grow tents. They have a longstanding reputation for high quality, affordable products and excellent customer service.

Second, they are offering a generous, 3-year warranty on this product along with a 30-day hassle-free return policy and 24/7 customer support. This means you’re covered if some unknown problem sneaks up a couple years down the road, which is a nice reassurance.

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

Science tells us that there are 12 specific bands of color that are healthiest for cannabis plants.

Many low-cost grow lights only feature the red and blue bands, because those provide essential food that your plants can’t live without. The best lights, however, will have LEDs in all 12 spectrum colors.

Think of it like providing your plant with a 12 course meal instead of just warming up some mac and cheese. The VIVOSUN 600w LED grow light feeds your plant a whole diet of full-spectrum light, which will help it grow stronger, fuller buds and larger yields.

Among those 12 bands are UV and Infrared lights, both of which provide specific necessary benefits to your plant. UV light waves are known for creating bigger, thicker buds, while Infrared lights keep your plant low and more manageable for indoor grow spaces.

In all, the spectrum of this VIVOSUN LED is absolutely perfect to take your plants from seed to harvest!

    PAR

PAR stands for Photosynthetic Active Radiation; It is the measure of usable light at a given space. The higher the PAR value of a light, the more healthy, edible wavelengths it provides to your growing plant.

Plants thrive first under lower PAR values (200-400) during its first few weeks of the veg cycle, but need a higher PAR as they grow. A thriving plant in the veg stage needs a PAR between 400 and 600, and a flowering plant needs between 600 and 900 PAR.

VIVOSUN proves once again that they understand every aspect of in-home growing because they have provided us with detailed info about the PAR for this light. At 18” from the plant, we can use the above diagram to determine exactly how much PAR your plant will receive.

The center point PAR at 18” is only 584, which isn’t quite high enough for flowering, so you’ll want to keep the plant closer to the light during flower to increase the PAR it’s receiving. Be wary of keeping the light too close, though, to avoid burning or bleaching the leaves.

Check latest price on Amazon →

    Coverage

During the vegetative stage, this light can cover an entire 4’ by 4’ grow tent. The size decreases to 3’ by 3’ during the flower stage. If you need a high PAR throughout your tent, you might want to consider buying two of these lights and using the convenient daisy chain feature to link them in your grow space.

Not quite sold on this one?

While there are a lot of great features about this powerful 600w LED, it might not be the right fit for everyone. If you like this one but aren’t quite sold, we recommend the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED which beat out the VIVOSUN in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide for Best Overall Grow Light.

    Warranty information

When shopping for LEDs, it’s a very good idea to compare warranties. Most LEDs will last between 5 and 10 years, but they’re also very costly to replace if something goes wrong. A warranty promises that you’re covered in case of an unexpected breakdown.

A solid warranty is even more important in this case, since we don’t have any long-term info about the VIVOSUN. We have faith in the brand, but there are a few pieces of the warranty that we especially love:

    • 30-day hassle-free return policy
    • 3-year warranty
    • 24/7 customer support

Once again, VIVOSUN goes above and beyond by providing triple-layer protection for its customers. With a warranty like this one, you can rest easy knowing that your investment is covered!

    Our Verdict

When it’s all said and done, we really like the VIVOSUN 600w LED grow light and we think you will too. It has everything that you need to feed your plant a healthy diet for its whole life. And it’s very affordable compared against comparable models.

    Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED

Over the last few years, LED grow lights have become the most popular choice for in-home cannabis growers, and it’s easy to see why. LED grow lights significantly reduce your heat and power consumption, keeping your grow efficient and reducing your energy bills.

Due to their increasing popularity, there are now a TON of LED grow lights to choose from. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the options, you’re not alone!

Here at GreenBudGuru, we’ve tested and reviewed all of the best-rated LED grow lights on the market to help you find the best light for your setup.

Today we’re going to be reviewing one of the best on the market, the Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED.

Advanced Platinum is an American-based company that produces top end grow lights. Their line of grow lights claim to have the highest PAR output per watt of any grow light on the market.

The P300 is their most popular grow light. In this review, we’ll be looking at this light’s:

    • Features & Build quality
    • Color Spectrum/PAR Output
    • Coverage
    • Warranty info

    Quick review

Heads up! This article is a little on the long side. if you’re short on time and just want a quick overview, here you go:

If you’re looking for a high quality LED grow light for cannabis, look no further. The Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED grow light ticks every box.

Here’s what we love most about this light:

    • 12-band, full-spectrum LEDs (including IR and UV) which is the best spectral output available.
    • High PAR Output compared to many other grow lights on the market.
    • Extremely low power usage, so your energy bills won’t spike.
    • Unbelievable 5-year warranty, so you can purchase with confidence.

We featured it in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide! We ranked this light 2nd Place in our Best Overall Grow Light category… and it only missed out on the top spot because of its slightly higher price point

Who is this light best for?

The Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED grow light is an excellent choice for the grower who wants the absolute best light for both the veg and flower cycles and is willing to pay whatever it takes.

It comes with every band of light your plant needs and is excellent for the in-home grower. Running a larger grow operation is possible with this one since the light can be easily daisy chained to others.

    What’s in the box?

It’s always important to see what comes in the box when you are buying LED grow lights, especially if you’re planning to daisy chain multiple lights together. Some companies provide a daisy chain cable, while others do not.

While the P300 has a daisy chain outlet on the top of each light, the company does not provide a cable for this purpose. Included in the box for this light is the following:

    • P300 grow light
    • 4’ power cable
    • Hanging kit, including four 10” steel cables with carabiner-style clips
    • User manual

    Features & Build

Individual controls for veg and flower cycles

The main colors that feed cannabis plants are red and blue. Vegetative plants need more blue while flowering buds need an even mixture.

Two of the best features of this light are the dual switches which allow you to customize the lights as your plant grows and changes. You can turn on just the VEG switch, which activates the healthiest mixture of LEDs for a vegetative plant, or just the BLOOM switch for your flowering buds.

Many growers choose to use both switches during the flower stage since more LEDs will increase the PAR value, which is crucial during flower.

This cool feature is pretty much exclusive to high-end LEDs, and one more reason that LEDs are the most popular choice for in-home growers!

    High-quality LEDs

The name of the P300 is a little bit misleading because it actually replaces up to 400w in a comparable HPS or fluorescent. It is called a 300w light because it has 100 LEDs that are 3 watts each, but these are not your average LEDs.

Each bulb features 90° Secondary Focusing Lenses, which allow them to use less power while still emitting more edible lightwaves for your plant. So even though there are only 300w of light, they have the same power as a 400w equivalent.

This cool feature is just one of the ways that you get more bang for your buck when you invest in the Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED grow light.

    Energy efficient

Along with packing a ton of light into a little wattage, the P300 saves you a ton of money on your electrical bill. When both switches are turned on, it only draws an average of 180 watts of power! During the veg cycle, it will only run about 98 watts on average!

The Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED grow light also features an extended 100,000-hour lifespan, so it will last longer than other lights. The amount of money you’ll save with this one makes up for the fact that it’s more expensive than its peers.

    American-made

If you prefer to buy products that were made in America, you’ll definitely want this light. Not only is the company a family-owned and operated American business, it also only buys LEDs from reputable American suppliers!

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

Along the color spectrum, there are specific colors that are best for marijuana plants. It’s important to find a grow light that features all the color bands your help your plant thrive.

The Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED grow light is specifically designed to have the exact bands of light your plant needs, including UV and Infrared, and each switch (VEG and BLOOM) features the bands that are healthiest for its respective stage of growth.

UV and Infrared lights also play an important role in plant growth, and are not always featured in lower-cost LEDs. Quality grow lights like this one, however, don’t skimp on this important plant food.

Infrared waves are specifically important for cannabis plants because they speed up growing and increase yields.

Specifically, they help reduce the stress a plant experiences when transitioning between day and night. This stress usually slows down grow speed, so the Infrareds keep the plant growing by eliminating the stress.

UV waves, on the other hand, are extremely important for budding plants because they increase trichome production. More trichs equal higher potency and a better high. These LEDs help facilitate massive, dense buds that are dripping with THC.

    PAR Output

Where spectrum tells us the quality of the emitted light, PAR tells us the quantity of that light: how much light is actually being given off and how much of it is edible for your plant.

PAR Output of your light is the best way to determine if it will provide enough healthy food to your plant. New seedlings thrive under lower PAR values (200-400), and need a higher PAR as they grow. Flowering plants require higher PAR, between 600 and 900.

This light actually goes much higher than 900 at the center point, as the video at the start of this review shows. Those are some really high numbers!

You wouldn’t want to put a plant directly under a light at 1000+ PAR, because your plant would probably get light burn. However, PAR decreases as you move from the center of the light. To avoid burning or bleaching your plant, flank two or more plants to the sides so that no single plant is directly under the light.

Also, remember that mylar-lined grow tents can increase your light’s PAR by up to 25%, so you’ll want to assume the value is a little higher than expected unless you’re using a PAR meter. We recommend this one.

    Coverage

There are a couple of downsides to the Advanced Platinum Series P300 LED, and one of them is the coverage area. The manufacturer lists the coverage area at 18” above the plant as 4.5’ x 3.8’ during veg and 3’ x 2’ during the flower stage.

The numbers for the flower stage seem to be accurate, but the veg numbers seem a little high. Based on customer reviews, the coverage area is closer to 3.5’ by 3.5’ during veg.

For the price, we wish the coverage area was a little bit larger, which is one of the main reasons this light only got the 2nd Place nod from us in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide.

This light was created to be daisy chained, though, and used in multiples to increase coverage. Investing in a few of these can give you all the light you’d need for a medium-sized grow operation.

Need something a little stronger? A little smaller?

The P300 is one in a series of lights in the Advanced Platinum collection, so you can find the perfect fit for you if this one isn’t it. Here’s a comparison chart of the whole series:

    Our Verdict

The Advanced Platinum line of grow lights is really impressive and would make a great choice for many growers. Whether you’re working on a single plant or planning a larger grow, this light would make a great choice.

There are a couple of small downsides: the fans are loud and the coverage area is kinda small. It’s a little bit disappointing in a light at this price point, but the light makes up for much of this with other high-quality aspects.

The 12-band spectrum and high PAR Output make this an excellent choice for growers who want to feed their plant a robust, healthy diet. Since healthy food is the best way to boost your yields, this light is worth the cost.

    Quick Summary
The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED grow light is a very popular light in the cannabis community and it’s easy to see why. It’s hard to find a bad thing to say about it.

We love pretty much every aspect of it. The power and PAR output of this light means that your plants will be flooded with high-quality light, leading to a large, potent yield.

Even though these lights are Chinese made, the build quality is good and VIPARSPECTRA are a very reputable company, offering a solid warranty and money-back guarantee. They respond to customer concerns quickly and seem to replace defective units without question. This is always something we recommend our readers look out for before purchasing a light.

In the next version, we’d like to see even more red light included for the flowering stage, but that really is nitpicking.

The V600 is an excellent grow light for the beginner to the semi-experienced grower looking for a light that provides excellent value for money.

Looking at the Amazon reviews, a lot of people agree with us!

UPDATE: We awarded this light “Best Overall Grow Light” in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 guide.

VIPARSPECTRA 600w Led Grow Light FAQ’s

We’ve answered the most popular questions about this light, asked by our readers and on online forums. If you have a question about this light, please ask us in the comments and we’ll answer it here!

    Is the packaging discreet?
Yes! If you purchase from Amazon, the light will come in a standard brown Amazon box. Inside this, the light will be packaged in a neutral brown box.

What size of grow tent should I buy for this light?
A 3ft x 3ft grow tent would be perfect for this grow light

How many plants can I grow with this light?
This light will cover a 2.5 sq ft flowering crop. Each plant needs roughly 1 square ft of space. Therefore, this light should technically cover up to 6 plants  ( 2.5sq ft x 2.5sq ft ÷ 1sq ft = 6.25 ) although we suggest growing a maximum of 4 plants to give your flowering plants enough space to flourish.

    Is this grow light loud?
The only sound this light produces is from the internal cooling fans. However, this noise is so quiet that you can hardly hear it. This is a great light if you are looking for discretion.

Do I need to buy a special cord to daisy chain two of these lights together?
No need to buy an extra cord. You simply connect the lights together using the built-in daisy-chain chord and then connect the last lights power cord to the outlet.

What is the PAR output of this light?
The PAR output on this light is fantastic. 456 umols at 24″ / 224 umols at 36″ – see more about this is the extended review below.

VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED Grow Light Review

With the explosion in popularity of home grows and the rise of the LED, it’s no surprise the grow light market has become flooded. Many lights make unrealistic claims about performance, so it’s important to do your research before buying.

Here at GreenBudGuru, we’ve tested and reviewed the best-rated lights so you don’t have to. Today, we’re going to be looking at the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED grow light.

VIPARSPECTRA is a very popular and well respected grow light manufacturer. Their Reflector Series is a line of LEDs which feature built-in reflectors to direct the light down towards your canopy (instead of around your grow room).

The V600 is one of their best selling models in the series. In this review, we’re going to cover all the features of this incredible grow light, including:

    • Features & Build quality
    • Color Spectrum / PAR Output
    • Coverage at different stages of your grow
    • Warranty info

Who is this light best for?

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED grow light is a great light for a small home grow, but you can also hang several side-by-side for larger grow operations. The high PAR output and 12-band spectrum give growers everything they need to feed their plant, so you should consider it if you:

    • Want a single light that will work for both the veg and flower cycles.
    • Are planning a small indoor grow or a medium professional setup.
    • Want a quality grow light but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg.

    What’s in the box?

The V600 comes with everything you need to get started as soon as you unpack it.

    • V600 LED grow light
    • 6.5′ daisy chain cord
    • Hanging kit
    • User instructions
    • Power cord

    Features & Build

    Excellent for heat dissipation

Investing in an LED light is a great way to cut the heat in your grow space since they run much cooler than HID or fluorescent lights. But that doesn’t mean that all LED grow lights are equal when it comes to heat.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED grow light runs an average of 70% cooler than an equivalent HID light. This is due to the 2 high-speed fans and aluminum construction that set it apart from competitors.

The best part? Even though the fans are very high powered, they run ultra quiet!

    Energy efficient

A lot of new growers worry about how much their electrical bill will increase when they set up their first grow space. LEDs are a popular choice because of their energy efficiency, and this light is no exception!

The V600 can replace a 600w HID bulb, but only consumes an average of 269 watts. Because of the power options, which we’ll discuss next, the true, consumed wattage can vary by 3% in either direction, but those numbers are still very impressive.

It also features an extended 100,000-hour lifespan, so it will last longer than other lights which just adds to how efficient it is!

Independent controls for both stages of growth

Two of the coolest features of the V600 are the individual controls that allow you to customize your lights output according to which stage of the grow cycle your plants are at. There are two switches on the back of the light: one for the vegetative stage of growth and another for the flowering stage.

The veg switch turns on about 1/2 of the lights with the correct red:blue spectrum ratio required for the veg stage. The bloom switch turns on the other 1/2 of LED lights, which are perfect for the flowering stage.

Most people choose to use the VEG switch for veg and both switches (to increase PAR) for flowering.

    High-quality LED bulbs

VIPARSPECTRA uses high-intensity 5-watt LED bulbs from well-known companies that have excellent reputations for producing high-quality products.

    Spectrum/PAR Output

    Spectrum

In order to call a light “full spectrum”, it must feature more than just red and blue LEDs. Many companies will attempt to exploit this rule by adding a few white LEDs to a standard red/blue light.

VIPARSPECTRA doesn’t skimp when it comes to their full spectrum lights, though, and the V600 features 12 bands of light across 120 LEDs, including UV and Infrared lights. That means your plant will get a robust diet of healthy light at every stage of growth.

    PAR Output

Just like not all food is healthy for the human body, not all light is healthy for your cannabis plant. The PAR output of a light source tells us how much of the light is actually providing healthy food to your plant.

Examining the PAR output of the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 600w LED gives us one more reason to love this light. The company provides us with a clear explanation of the PAR value at various heights, so you can make sure your plant is getting the right amount of food every step of the way.

Note: Plants in the early part of the veg stage need a lower PAR value (generally between 200 and 400). As they grow, the PAR should increase (around 400 to 600), and flowering plants should get the highest PAR (600-900).

The PAR values listed in the image above show the value if your plant is directly under that spot. So if you want your plant to be getting about 500 PAR, you’d want it directly under this light about 22” away.

This light can easily provide one plant a PAR value of 900+ during its flower stage, which means you can expect thick, dense buds and strong trichs. (It also means your plant can get flooded with too much light, so make sure you’re looking for signs like burned tips and yellowish leafs.

    Coverage

Just one V600 grow light can cover a 4’ x 4’ grow area during the veg stage. That number goes a little during the flower stage, but can still cover a 3’ x 3’ area. This amount of coverage is plenty for a small grow setup with a few plants.

If you need to light a larger space and want to maximize the PAR Output in your grow space, you can also buy multiples of this light and daisy-chain them together. Daisy chaining allows you to plug one cord into your light and run it directly to a second light, like a link, which allows you to minimize the number of cords running in and out of your grow space.

    Warranty information

Buying a light from VIPARSPECTRA comes with the added comfort of knowing you’re getting a quality brand. The company is one of the most popular manufacturers of lights for indoor cannabis growing and has been a fan favorite for years.

They also back their products with a decent warranty! This light comes with a 3-year warranty AND a 30-day money back guarantee, so you can rest easy that you’re covered in the rare event that anything goes wrong.

Let us know what you think!

Some people hesitate to grow their own marijuana plants, simply because they are afraid it will cost a lot of money to get started. Setting up a grow is notoriously expensive, but it doesn’t always have to be that way.

For low budget growers, or those who have tiny grow spaces, the the ACKE LED panel grow light is a great choice.

This light is a versatile and affordable option for beginners who are looking to raise a small number of marijuana seedlings. We like it so much that we featured it in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review – it took home the top spot in the Tiny Spaces category!

Who is this light best for?

This small, powerful light is a great choice if you are:

    • growing for the very first time
    • growing only one seed at a time
    • using a closet or unconventional grow space
    • looking for a low start-up cost for your grow space

Who is this light not for?

If you’re looking for an all in one grow light that will take you from seed to harvest with optimal results, this probably isn’t the light for you.

While this light doesn’t have the power your plants will need during flowering, it does an excellent job of boosting the health and vitality of young plants. This light is a great option if you have a dedicated space set up for germination or you need some inexpensive supplemental lighting.

Need a full life-cycle grow light?

If you need a grow light that will take you from vegetation to flowering without breaking the bank, we recommend the Shengsite 50W LED Grow Light which won first place in our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review.

    Features & Build

Without question, the best feature of this light is its versatility. From the multiple connectors to the dual mounting options, this light gives you the freedom to use it anywhere.

    Snap-in connectors

The light itself comes in two rectangular plates that can be connected either horizontally or vertically to best fit your grow space. Connecting horizontally creates a long, thin panel light… while connecting the pieces vertically creates a square.

Each panel is 3.9″ x 10.2″ and features on horizontal and one vertical snap. That means you can buy multiples of this light and continue connecting them to cover a larger area.

    Versatile mounting options

The ACKE grow panel light comes with all the supplies you’ll need to mount or hang it. That’s right, you can either hang this light with the included zip ties or mount it to a flat surface using double-sided tape (also included)!

This feature really adds to the appeal for unconventional growers. It’s a huge benefit to be able to mount such a thin light panel on a flat surface, but hanging the light still allows you the freedom to place it closer or further away as needed for your plant.

    Solid, thin design and construction

The body of this light is an ultra-thin, printed aluminum circuit board that protects the light from getting too hot. This is a huge benefit if you’re using an unconventional grow space since it also protects against fire.

ACKE really proves how much they care about the heat dissipation in their choice of LED lights, which have the lowest heat emission ratings. This means that your plants can get much closer to them without bleaching or burning.

    Spectrum/PAR Output

The ACKE LED Panel Grow Light stands out from its competitors because it features full spectrum lighting. This light contains 192 total LED lights: 128 red, 32 blue, and 32 warm white lights, to be exact.

This ratio of red to blue lights is perfect for new seedlings and clones, and the warm white lights can feed a plant into adolescence. Unlike others in its price range, this light has all the lights necessary to feed a plant all the way to its flowering stage.

    Coverage

The ACKE LED Panel Grow Light is pretty small, and so is its coverage area. We recommend this light for single-seed growers specifically for this reason!

The light will cover an area about 1′ x 1′ if it’s positioned about 15″ above the plant. This is the perfect size for one well-raised seed!

    Brand Reputation

ACKE has over 10 years’ experience in the grow light business. All of their products come with excellent ratings and they are very responsive to customer questions and concerns.

    Warranty

Not sold? Don’t worry. ACKE offers 24/7 customer service to help you troubleshoot any issues, and a 12-month warranty, so you won’t end up stuck with the light if you end up needing something different.

    Need something more powerful?

If you’re loving the panel design of this light but need something with more power, we recommend the Roleadro 45w LED, which took home our 3rd Place spot for the Budget Lights category! The Roleadro version comes with more than twice the wattage for a very reasonable price!

    AmazingCATS 18w Gooseneck LED

Every once in a while, we like to be a little bit unconventional. After all, not everyone uses high-end lighting and fancy grow rooms to grow their cannabis.

That’s why we’re excited to feature a light like the AmazingCATS 18w Gooseneck LED. Every aspect of this light bucks tradition and we love it!

As a matter of fact, we ranked this light 2nd place for our Tiny Spaces category for our Best Light for Growing Weed in 2018 review list!

Who is this light best for?

Now, we want to be very clear: this light isn’t for everyone.

This light is perfect if you:

    • Are new to growing and want to get your feet wet
    • Are only growing a single seed
    • Have a limited space
    • Have a very tight budget

A great grow light for seedlings

If you’re worried about your seedling during the first few weeks, you’re not alone! Many growers find the first month of a plant’s growth stressful when the seedling is small and fragile.

A great way to ease your fear is to keep your seedling in an office or kitchen space where it can be monitored closely during those critical first hours.  This single-bulb LED is an incredibly versatile way to accomplish this goal, since it can be hung or mounted in dozens of ways and can fit almost anywhere!

    Accessories for hanging your light

Buy this simple deluxe clamp lamp and you can instantly affix the light to any hard, flat surface (like your office desk). Or, if you want to hang the light, invest in an affordable hanging lantern light and the possibilities are endless!

    Features & Build

    Fits any standard light socket

The most obvious feature of this light is that it will fit in any standard light socket, so mounting accessories are cheap and easy to find. Even better, you can use existing spaces, like an unused bathroom or a closet with recessed lighting, for your grow area!

    Low cost and efficient

Another great feature of this light is the value.  The electrical cost of using this light is basically zero, and its long lifespan means you won’t have to replace it for a long time.

Plus, its aluminum build makes it very low-heat, so you never have to worry about it raising the temp of your grow space!

    Spectrum/PAR Output

While most of the LEDs we feature are full spectrum, the TaoTronics 12w LED does not feature Infrared nor UV rays. It will not take your plant from seed to harvest, but it produces all the necessary light waves to help your seedling or clone start off strong.

For limited-spectrum lighting, it’s important to consider the red:blue ratio.  A baby plant needs 2-3 times the red spectrum lights as blue ones, which is perfect since this light’s ration is 3:1.

A full spectrum light is great because it covers any kind of light your plant might want. In this case, however, we also need to make sure that the lights are the correct wavelengths to facilitate plant growth.

Luckily, this one gives us exactly what we need: blue lights at 400-470 nanometers and red lights at 610-720. These stats are perfect for photosynthesis.

    PAR output

One of the downsides to this light is that TaoTronics doesn’t provide the PAR Output.  PAR is one of the best ways to measure how much usable light your plant is getting, so it’s kind of disappointing that the company doesn’t supply the information.

Luckily, PAR can be determined by a simple mathematical equation, which one Amazon commenter conveniently did! They found that, at 24 inches above the plant, the center PAR for this light is 150 and at 16 inches, that number jumps to 310.

A baby plant needs a lower PAR, usually between 200 and 400. Based on the information here, we recommend starting your plant about 20 inches from this light. As it grows, the plant will get closer to the light and the PAR will increase.

    Coverage

At 20″ high, this light will cover an area of about 30″ by 30″. It’s important to remember, though, that the PAR Output is much stronger in the center. If your plant becomes wide or bushy, you may need to buy a second light to provide enough food.

    Need something more powerful?

If this light catches your eye but just doesn’t quite have the power you’re looking for, don’t worry!  TaoTronics has an upgraded version of this very bulb with triple the wattage!

    Summary

All in all, we love what the TaoTronics 12w LED does! It’s not going to be a light that you use for large grows or multiple plants, but it is excellent for the single-seed beginner.

It provides incredible versatility for new growers who aren’t sure where to put their grow space. It’s also perfect for growers who want to keep their seedling nearby during the first few weeks.

The low cost and low heat make it a great option for closet growers, and its small size makes it excellent for tiny grow spaces.
