UNIFUN 45w LED Grow Light Review
For new growers who are on a budget, choosing the right LED grow light can be a real challenge. At a low price point, you’re definitely going to be skimping on a feature or two, and unless you’re a cannabis guru, it’s hard to know when it’s safe to cut corners.
Here at GreenBudGuru, we’ve researched and reviewed the best LED grow lights on the market.
Today we’re featuring the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, which took home 2nd place in the Best Budget Grow Lights category in our Best Lights for Growing Weed awards!
In this review, we’re going to cover:
- Features & Build Quality
- Color Spectrum/PAR Value
Who is this grow light for?
This budget LED grow light is great for beginners looking to setup a small, discreet grow space or germination area ( such as in a closet ) as the light comes with an easy-to-hang hook. It can also be used by beginners to grow a single plant ( if you’re not too worried about mediocre results ) This might be a good option if you’re just testing dipping your toes in to growing weed is something you’d like to do.
Who is this grow light NOT for?
This LED grow light is not for growers looking to grow more than one plant. This light has a small coverage area and a low power output ( 45w ) Unless you’re simply looking to create a separate area for growing seedlings, you’ll need to invest in a more powerful light. We suggest that you checkout the VIPARSPECTRA 300W or VIPARSPECTRA 600w which will produce far superior results.

Features & Build
Growers who are working on a tight budget need lighting that can tick as many boxes as possible, and the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light really fits that bill well.
This light can be hung from any bar or rod with the simple hook latch, which means it can fit in smaller makeshift grow spaces such as closets. Because of it’s slim and lightweight design, it can also be mounted to a flat surface using double-sided foam tape (not included).
At only about 13″ x 13″, this LED light is super compact, which means it can fit into even the tiniest of grow spaces.
There are two light colors that are cannabis plants require; red and blue. Seedlings and clones need red light the most during the first couple months.
A new seedling searches for red light, which provides the right nutrients it needs to grow. If it has a hard time finding the right kind of red light, it will begin to stretch taller and thinner, focusing its energy on reaching a place where red light is abundant. This is why cannabis plants grown outdoors can reach 6′ tall, or taller!
Most in-home growers, however, don’t have the kind of vertical space to grow a plant that tall. That’s why a heavy helping of red LEDs is so beneficial – red light helps your plant grow shorter and wider, preserving that valuable vertical real estate.
The ratio of red light to blue light in the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light is roughly 3:1, which is perfect for young cannabis plants.
At 20″ from the top leaves ( the canopy ) the UNIFUN 45W grow light should cover roughly 1.5 square meter. This is the perfect size for someone planning to grow one plant at a time.
PAR has become one of the best ways to calculate your light’s effectiveness, replacing other measurements like wattage and lumen. It’s important to know the PAR Output of your LED grow light, which makes it a little disappointing to know that UNIFUN hasn’t provided any information about the PAR of this one.
Since this LED isn’t made specifically for cannabis growing, we don’t have statistics on PAR output. Luckily, we’ve done the research and can make some educated guesses about the PAR output based on the number of LEDs and comparable models.
In general, you’ll want seedling and clones to receive a lower PAR Output, somewhere between 200 and 400. As your marijuana plant grows, the PAR should also increase… flowering plants need a PAR value between 600 and 900.
To fall within the 200-400 PAR range with the UNIFUN 45w LED grow light, we recommend keeping the light between 10″ and 20″ away from the top of your plant.
Pro tip: remember to invest in a second LED that can take over when this light stops being powerful enough. Usually between 4-8 weeks into the veg cycle, you’ll want to upgrade to a higher PAR LED, like the VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series 300w LED grow light.
UNIFUN offers a standard 30-day satisfaction guarantee and 12-month warranty, so you’re more than covered if something goes wrong.
